Slightly updated at the end of 2018, the Jeep Grand Cherokee is a large and elegant SUV, squared but with a typical Jeep appearance, and also suitable for more demanding routes. The credit goes to the engines rich in torque, to the refined permanent all-wheel drive (with distributor that distributes the torque between the two axles), to the reduced gears, to the system that automatically limits the downhill speed and the body well raised from the ground. But it is also a luxurious car, which offers a comfortable passenger compartment (five people travel very comfortably). On the road, the Grand Cherokee shows an excellent ability to absorb the bumps of the ground, but prefers relaxed gaits.
With this 457 cm long crossover, the French brand aims to undermine German dominance in the luxury car sector, thanks to the very refined finishes with soft plastics and well-made assemblies. The cabin is well maintained and driving comfort makes it ideal for long family trips. Not bad also the technological equipment such as the fully automatic parking system and the objective that incorporates the road surface to allow a control unit to adapt in advance the response of the electronically controlled shock absorbers on the holes or the asphalt irregularities.
The Alfa Romeo Stelvio is the first SUV of the Biscione house. Under the gritty but "clean" lines, characterized by an all-Italian elegance, there are the refined structure and mechanics of the Giulia sedan, compared to which the Stelvio is 7 cm higher from the ground.
Where the Alfa Romeo suv stands out is in the brilliant driving. The direct and precise steering, the great rapidity in trajectory changes and the excellent road holding guarantee a safe and satisfying behavior, better than that of many sedans.
More slender than the old model (which it replaced after 12 years), the Volvo XC90 is an impressive suv. The style is elegant and sporty at the same time. The interior is luxurious, full of top-of-the-range solutions like the dashboard consisting of a digital panel or the large touch-screen in the dashboard from which the on-board services are also controlled. Proportioned to the external dimensions both the roominess and the capacity of the boot (of 705 liters if the two seats are not present in the third row, which bring to seven the total places). Comfort is also very good, especially with the air suspension, which also improves driveability.
The medium-sized crossover (439 cm the length) of the American brand has an elegant appearance (it looks like a Grand Cherokee in a rodotta scale) and is comfortable: the interiors are welcoming and the suspension effectively filters the disconnections of the road. The raised driving position is comfortable and well adjustable, while the controls are practical. Equipped with four wheels, the Jeep Compass lets you drive easily (light steering, precise shifting), is safe (ok roadholding) and has good handling. Furthermore, with 22 centimeters of "light" between the bottom of the car and the ground, one can face very uneven terrain.
